I agree with everything you wrote except:
"Now, the issue is football players are clearly being reimbursed via endorsements at values way above market value..." I understand what you meant. Most of us gasped at what was alleged by Tech. However, market value is based on what buyers are willing to pay and what sellers are willing to accept. As long as Tech offers what was alleged (post up above) and what Michigan offered (8 figures), that will drive market value. That in itself defines market value. [Personally I wouldn't pay that much even I had Elon Musk's money 😛]

As I posted before: Those poor college athletes being taken advantage of is a shame (sarcasm). 😉

Yep. Pay for play is at play in college football these days. It's lovely. It's done in politics, Musk. Capitalism at it's finest.

I was attempting humor when I mentioned Elon Musk. I didn't intend to imply any politics nor for this thread to detour into a political swipe. 🙄 Had I known it would have lead to a political swipe, I would have selected another name to make a point that I wouldn't pay that much for a high school player. I suggest any more references about politics be posted on the political page.

You may have been attempting humor but there is a lot of truth in "Pay for Play" in college football. It's a beautiful thing.

I fail to see the beauty. Instead, I smell the stench of death.

College football is supposed to be the proving ground for the NFL. You do well in college football, you'll make millions in the NFL.

These kids come straight out of high school, having proved jack shit, and get handed cash and benefits which reward them almost totally on potential.

It's all about the money. And that's really sad. Because it used to be about so much more.

FWIW, After the loss to TX, Clemson should still be ranked, making them the only currently ranked team TX has beaten this year. This obviously doesn't matter, but it's an interesting fact.
