*****GAME THREAD : UTEP @ No. 7 TEXAS*****

man o man I am not sure what it is be we got probs.....hoping it is like it was when we looked like this a few years ago then almost beat alabama at home.....really hoping there is not complacency or distraction in the coaching staff....hard to figure out

I know a lot has been said before in this thread but WTF?

The oLine (esp right side) and QB play is dreadful.

How is Arch still looking like this? He’s been in college 3 years and still looks like a freshman (a very bad one at that). Yes he can run but we are going to lose a lot of games given he can’t hit an open you except every 1/4 times. Where is the QB development? It’s absent entirely. A guy in the system for 3 years should look way more polished than lost.

The right side OL? You’re all 5 stars getting bullied by 3 stars. Georgia, Florida etc will live in the backfield.

I feel bad for the rest of the talented offense bc we are going nowhere fast.

We didn’t look any better than last week in fact we looked worse.

We are losing 5-7 games this year.

I mean, maybe it’s not the play calling. 4th and 3 and 2 wide open receivers. Awful

perhaps when a young QB is making MILLIONS NIL he isnt listening to anybody. His Daddy better sit him down and have that come to Jesus talk. It would be ironic if he gets benched in favor of the QB from Troy State of all places.

The entire starting OL played every snap against UTEP. Let that sink in.

Neto never got into the game.

Fialsame wasn't suited out for the game. Not sure why.

I saw Baker whif at least 3 times on blocking. I thought he would be further along in his development. I would like to see Neto. I guess his pass blocking is suspect, but Neto seems to be stronger and a road grader.

so Sha....you are saying we are doomed?

It better turn around for the better quickly or we'll not survive the SEC gauntlet.

The talent is there. What else could be wrong?

So my question at this point, is Arch Manning too much in his own head or is this a development issues?
Great question. Easy to say both. I definitely think the former. All the hype, all the expectations, then get confused during games due to poor development and game planning and your get rushed throws, standing in backfield for +5sec while line tries to hold the Defense off. Doesn't help when the coach abandons pass against a tier 3 school, doesn't help self confidence

Just wish we had the Arch from last season back.

I was at the El Paso game. Hard to watch Arch do so poorly. Want the best for the guy but want what is best for the team more.

Found myself wishing they would bench Arch for a series or two and allow the back up QB to throw the ball.

Before I jump on the "bench Arch" bandwagon, I'll throw this out. He looks like a first year starter who has had very few meaningful snaps. When you're the backup QB, you can play loose and fling the ball around without much pressure if you know you can't be QB1.

But when you are QB1, there is some pressure. You can lose QB1 status. When you are the pre-season favorite to win the Heisman, that could add a little more pressure. When your last name is Manning, there is a whole heck of a lot of pressure. Has any Manning QB been benched?

I believe the expectations for Arch were a little high. He needs to play loose and have fun. Forget QB1 or QB2 and just play like he knows how to play. It'll come. It just may not be this year.

Im expecting him to hit wide open receivers. Not come up 3 feet short or 2 feet over the wr's head.
That has nothing with being a Heisman candidate.

Here's some random thoughts from an armchair Coach who has never made a wrong decision, after the fact:

> Make Manning into Sam Ehlinger 2.0. The one thing he does well (right now) is run. Run him on zone-read. Run him between the tackles. Make him a viable running threat for the defense to worry about.
> Start taking field goals and punt the dang ball. We do one thing great this year... play defense. We need to realize who we are and study Fred Akers films from the early 80s. Run down clock and try to win games 17-7.

After we finish this season (probably a disappointing finish):

> Double Coach K's Salary.
> Give Head Coach Sark a slight raise.
> Fire OC Sark and insist Head Coach Sark go outside and hire a new one.... preferable from the Briles tree.
