*****GAME THREAD: San Jose State @ No. 7 Texas*****

I honestly think that is just his face. lol He has a lot of similar expressions to Eli, who always looked in pain throwing the ball.

But I do agree the energy was lower. I think a lot of that has to do with the opponent. But if it doesn't pick up in the next 2 weeks we could be in a bind.

The team needs time to gel. Arch is more underdeveloped than I was expecting in his redshirt sophomore season. He will need his full 2 years to reach potential.

Games I'm worried about: at Florida, OU, at Georgia, A&M.

Games that could worry me: Miss St and Arkansas

There's tons of talent and the defense is good to great.

I will be patient bc patience will be needed.

I did not like what I saw last week.
For me, I have to say the biggest disappointment was the OL. I thought they should've dominated the smaller SJS DL. I expected huge running lanes and time for the QB. The 2nd part of that happened for the most part, but they sucked in the running game.

As of right now, this is not a championship team. Can they get there? I don't know. The talent suggests they can, but the sample size so far has not been impressive. Defense has been really, really good at times, but San Jose exposed some areas that more talented teams can exploit if not corrected now. Texas should dominate UTEP all day long, key word is should.

There are two other players (Manning is a given) that really need to elevate their level of play and that is Wingo and Simmons. Both of them have been really subpar to start the year. I would say Simmons has just as many negative plays (penalties) as he does good plays. Wingo has to help Manning out. Sure Manning should put the ball on the numbers, but Wingo needs to make the tough, inaccurate catches as well. That is what makes a receiver great.

I will add that we had no business committing that many penalties against a team like SJSU.

It wasn't all bad last Saturday. I was fairly ticked right after the game. I've managed to come back down to earth since then. We did alright but we're not a finished product by any means.

Totally agree. Texas still won easily on Saturday and that is a good thing. Played sloppy, but still won by 31 points. There were things to like. To me though, that 31 point difference is shere talent level over San Jose State. That is how much more talented Texas was across the board.

I said before, they need to view these next 2 weeks as another fall camp with live game reps (scrimmage) each Saturday and then a bye week to prepare for SEC play. Get better and better than the week before.

I wonder if it wasn't a hangover from last weeks game? Texas out played Ohio St and lost.
