*****GAME THREAD: No.1 Texas @ No.3 Ohio State*****

Total yards:
Texas 336
OSU 203

There is a lot that can be said about two costly penalties on first OSU TD drive and their long TD pass, conservative play calling and our missed scoring opportunities close to the goal line. As Don Meredith use to say on Monday Night Football: "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we all would have a Merry Christmas.

There is a lot of room for improvement. It is a long season. I like to see Texas peaking at winning national championship.

If you had told me before the game that Texas would:
-win the ground game
-win total yards by 100+
-hold osu to 7 points through 3 quarters

...id have taken it. 100 times out of 100.

Poorly timed penalties, Arch missing easy throws, and more garbage goal-line play calling are, as usual, the killers against elite teams.

Ohio State's first penalty came in the 4th quarter.

We left 14 points at the goal line. We should have won 21-14.

The QB sneak by Manning that was stuffed . . . OSU had four DTs lined up shoulder to shoulder in the middle. And we ran right at it. Geez. If you see that Arch, audible to an outside zone. Poor play calling by Sark. And Arch did nothing to stop it.

OSU handled Simmons for the most part. We played solid defense, but if we could have put more pressure on Sayin I think we'd had a couple of turnovers. Didn't hear Anthony Hill's name called much.

Graceson Littleton is a player. Big late season pick up for us last cycle. Kid was nails.

I sure hope Baker improves. Stroh was a force in the run game. OL wasn't that bad but you can see they haven't gelled as a unit yet. Arch needs to work on his passing. He was off targett most of the game.

Meanwhile blowklahomas new qb is looking all world.
The RRR looks like its going to turn into a dog fight.

To be fair, Illinois State is not Ohio State. I think Trey Owens would look all world against them. I'm not too concerned about BlowU. Sark needs to take the reigns off and let Arch be Arch. Way too conservative this game. Sark has done this every year. 1st game of the year is always vanilla. Problem is, Texas started off against the defending champs and not UTEP or Louisiana Monroe.

Hopefully the Horns can do exactly what OSU did last year. They looked avg and lost against Oregon early, but they gelled at the right time at the end. Next three games should go a long way to getting the OL gelling and Arch in rhythm. Defense is already in mid season form.

OSU even lost to Michigan last year.

It’s impressive how Ohio state didn’t really make any penalties except a few. Ours were drive killers or ended up in a TD for them. We always seem ti be just slightly more undiciplined than the more elite teams.

But they did. I saw holding on almost every play. Some times, it was done right in front of the ref.
