I was merely stating that if you suck at your job it is cause to be fired in the real world. This was directed to coaching contracts in general.

Negative. "Suck at your job" is a relative term. If you look at Kelley's record, he's been producing winning seasons. So to suggest he is inadequate to do the job is a stretch, at best.

It could also be argued that he wasn't allowed enough time.

But when you look at a judge and say "we wanted to win ALL the games" I don't think you'll be able to keep him from laughing.

I don't understand why he took that job. There are more prestigious openings. I feel like he is tired of the big time pressure and taking a job with few expectations but maybe a bowl game.
I don't think he got all the responses he wanted from open programs. This is likely the best offer he got. And it will be in a very winnable conference.

Then why not take a year or two off for a better job. I don't know much about him, but this seems like step down. UCLA (unless he doesn't want to go to the west coast) would be more prestigious. I guess this is something I won't ever understand. It'll be like Kiffin taking the Ok State job.

FWIW, I think there were some provisions in his offset clause that I believe required him to look for another top tier HC job.

Interestingly he recently accepted a buyout of 9 million, down from the 54 million owed on his contract. I guess the contract must have been mostly to Penn state's advantage. Surprising, given that like most of the big time coaches his agent is Jimmy Sexton.

Not sure who Penn State will get, but given the circumstances of the firing, a 9 million dollar buyout seems like a bargain.

It will be interesting to see how much LSU ends up having to pay Kelly.

Kelly to Penn St?

One big difference here is that Kiffin's stock is high while Franklin's is pretty low...

I'm not sure UCLA would be a step up from Va Tech. Their NIL is pathetic and their AD is broke. And UCLA's BOR don't seem to think football is important. They fired their HC but he was hamstrung by UCLA's limitations and deficiencies. The next guy will have the same problem.

Agreed. And Va Tech isn't some slacker program. They have a big fan base/alumni pool and one hell of an entrance. lol

Not sure why waiting 1-2 years would help him get a better job.

I’m seeing reports Lincoln Riley might be going to Florida. Two things, he seems to wear out his welcome after a few years and this should really make for an interesting signing period if that happens

He did well at ou. But USC has been totally different. I think the shine has worn off his star.

Confirmed hires as of 11/30:

Kiffin to LSU
Golesh (USF) to Auburn
Silverfield (Memphis) to Arkansas
Sumrall (Tulane) to Florida

Tim Beck was also fired from CCU.
