I just can't see Meyer at Florida State. Miami, yes. But Miami is not really wanting to get rid of Cristobal.

Agree, Penn State and LSU would be options for him. LSU might be the prize job there between the two. I don't know if Penn State is "big enough" to draw Urban there.

But no, I would not be surprised to see Meyer get back in for a few years.

FWIW. Last week on Fox big noon they had a section where they had Meyers rank the open coaching jobs.

"
Meyer's hypothetical ranking
  • Florida: Ranked as the top job due to its recruiting hotbed, strong talent pool, recent facility investments, and his own history of winning two national championships there.
  • LSU: Considered a top job due to its talent level, but ranked slightly lower than Florida because of its current dysfunction, such as the lack of an athletic director.
  • Penn State: Also considered a top opening, but his ranking is not consistently highlighted in the provided sources, and he denies meeting with them for the job, per Awful Announcing.

Meyer's current stance
  • No interest in coaching: Meyer has repeatedly stated he is not interested in coaching again and is happy with his role on "Big Noon Kickoff," according to Awful Announcing, Newsweek, and Daily Express US.
"

Crazy how many P4 coaching jobs are projected to become available. I went and looked at current odds for already open jobs. This doesn't count jobs like Florida St. Wisconsin, Maryland, and Michigan St. which I think will definitely become open. Nor other schools like Baylor, North Carolina, and Kentucky which might open.

Current HC opening favorites are below. This is who people are wagering the most money to go where. Changing day by day and will alter as one job fills, another opens:

Penn State:
  1. Brian Hartline (Ohio State OC) - -250
  2. Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri HC) - +275
  3. Joe Brady (Bills OC) - +300
Florida:
  1. Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss HC) - -300
  2. Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri HC) - +120
  3. James Franklin (Penn St Fired HC) - +600
LSU:
  1. Nick Saban (ESPN) - +200
  2. Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss HC) - +375
  3. Joe Brady (Bills OC) - +400
Auburn:
  1. Jon Sumrall (Tulane HC) - -150
  2. DJ Durkin (Interim Auburn HC) - +300
  3. James Franklin (Penn St Fired HC) - +500
Arkansas:
  1. Ryan Silverfield (Memphis HC) - +200
  2. James Franklin (Penn St Fired HC) - +225
  3. Bobby Petrino (Interim Ark HC) - +450
Oklahoma St.:
  1. Eric Morris (UNT HC) - +200
  2. Zac Robinson (Falcons OC) - +250
  3. Jeff Monken (Army HC) - +400
UCLA:
  1. Jedd Fisch (Washington HC) - +200
  2. Tommy Rees (Browns OC) - +300
  3. Tony White (Florida St. DC) - +400

I just heard that LSU is pulling some shenanigans, and are now saying that they fired Kelly "for cause."

This could hinder their efforts to hire someone with skins on the wall.

No Jon Gruden? Man would he make things even more interesting! Love me some Gruden...

A few interesting numbers. Saben +200 (.333 probability). If I was a better I would bet against Saben taking that job. I'm sure LSU would throw crazy money at him, but all indications are that he's done coaching.

Another one that surprises me is that Patrino is only +450(18.2%) to land the Arkansas gig.

Well, Petrino hasn't won since he's been in charge. A few close games then they seemed to just give up.

Can you believe what LSU is trying to do to Kelley? Man, if LSU offered me the job, I don't know I'd take it. If they do this to Kelley, they'd do it to me, totoo.

His contact apparently has some offsets built in, so if he gets another job that would reduce the amount LSU pays. I think they may be trying to get a lower settlement in exchange for eliminating the offsets.

At any rate, it's not a good look, and between that and no AD it's going to be a tough sell for a top flight cosch.

One I forgot to put in is Virginia Tech. Sounded like Franklin was the favorite there but something happened. I think he ends up at Arkansas now, but just a hunch.

As shocking as it sounds I'm not surprised. I'm going to make this very general. As a former comptroller of a major clinic and HMO, I had the good fortune to befriend a health professional. The person was high character and considered one of the best in their field. I asked the person why they left Louisiana, especially as president of a state medical association. In short and being vague here, the response was the corruption was out of control. When the professional tried to do something about it, well, in short, to feel safe he had to move his family out of the state of Louisiana. That is all I'm sharing. To your post, what they are trying to do to Kelly is small potatoes compared to what was shared with me.

If you suck at your job in the real world, you get fired for cause all the time. Schools are stupid for not writing that into the contract.

They are now claiming they never fired him (legally). Officials (whoever they are) claim the AD didn't have the authority to fire him. The 'then' associate AD, who is now the new AD, was in the meeting that occurred when Kelley was fired (or told not to coach). That person is now the new AD and will be in charge of hiring a new coach. With that strategy, LSU is trying to renogiate his buyout. Now think about how this looks. They fired the AD that fired Kelley, for firing Kelley, but they claim they didn't legally fire Kelley, but they promoted the associate AD to AD, who was in the meeting when they claim they didn't legally fire Kelley...and they appointed an interim coach. 🙄 This is goofier than Lou Costello asking Bud Abbott "who's on first?" To SHA's point, would you accept a job working for a school that act goofier than Abbott and Costello?

I was merely stating that if you suck at your job it is cause to be fired in the real world. This was directed to coaching contracts in general.

It's not just coaches who get paid golden parachutes. There are tons of CEOs, school superintendents, and other chief officers who get paid to go away. I don't think it's right either. But when you sign a stupid contract to recruit someone, you are required to follow the terms.

I understand. I thought you might not be aware of the carnival at Baton Rouge. My apologies.

Well his job was to coach the team for X amount of dollars over Y amount of years. He did that. Nowhere in his contract did it say he has to win a certain amount of games or bring in a certain amount of tickets or NIL money. So he followed his contract as far as we know so he's entitled to the full buyout.
