Longhorns baseball goes back to the diamond Mar 18 (Tue) 6:30 p.m. CT against UTSA

Austin, Texas UFCU Disch-Falk Field
TV: SEC Network+

The Longhorns are riding a 17-game win streak and look to tune up against UTSA before entering a weekend series with LSU.

The Matchup

The 16-6 Roadrunners are set to take on the 17-1 Longhorns in their fifth game played on a Tuesday. This will be UTSA’s third-ranked opponent they have played this year.

The Roadrunners and Longhorns have played 32 games against each other. Texas has won 26 of the 32 games. Texas won the last time these teams played each other 6-2.

James Hubbard will be on the mound for the Roadrunners; he holds a 1-2 record with 14.1 innings pitched. Hubbard has struck out 15 batters, only walking four and giving up 16 hits.

After starting off the season 1-3, the Roadrunners ripped off a 14-game win streak, which is now the UTSA baseball team’s longest win streak in program history, beating a 12-game win streak set by the 1994 team.

The streak started with a 6-5 win over Long Island University on Feb. 22. The win streak continued until Mar. 9 with a 7-4 win over Texas Southern. With 13 of the 14 games played at home, UTSA took down No. 14 Texas A&M in College Station on Mar. 4. The streak finally ended with a loss to UIW on Mar. 11. Their most recent win coming against #20 Dallas Baptist on Mar. 15.

Very bad start to the game for Texas. Rerick got the start, but a wind aided homerun to leadoff then 2 walks and hit batter to load the bases with no outs. Now a pitching change to Bing.

Top of the 1st, UTSA gets 2 runs to lead 2-0. Heading the bottom of the 1st. Expect several normal fly outs to possibly be homeruns or long outs

Bottom of the 3rd,
Texas gets 2 on, then double steal. Borba hits a ground ball to 3rd, but the 3rd baseman throws the ball wide of the 1st baseman for an error. Borba get a RBI, and the error allows the 2nd runner to score.

After 3 complete Texas leads 5-2.
Bing has been really good since coming in so far with 4 strikeouts.

Top of the 6th, leadoff single. Thrown out trying to steal 2nd. Then walk, double, and another walk. Basesloaded with 1 out. Navarre goes only 1/3 of an inning. Now Burns comes in.

Thru 8 complete tied at at 7. Texas gave up the lead in the top of the 7th. Galvan hits a monster homerun in the bottom of the 8th to tied up the game.

Top of the 11th, BIG SIGH OF RELIEF FOR TEXAS! UTSA gets a blop single followed by a double. Runners on 2nd and 3rd and they were left after Riojas strikeouts the next 2 and gets a groundout to the SS.

BTW, J. Duplantier is now at 3rd and Scott II is now in LF.

Thru 11 complete tied at 7. Riojas back out to start the 12th, he has gone 4 innings. Will see how long he goes.

Well Damn. Top of the 12th, a 2 out homerun for UTSA. UTSA leads going to the bottom of the 12th 8-7.
