aggy thread

This is Tarp's post on how the aggy football team performed during their scrimmage. See below.

Texas A&M's spring game highlighted an offensive line that was missing two starters and was broken up across the Maroon team and the White team. Thus, getting an accurate read on the group's capabilities (as well as those of the defenders they face) was difficult to say the least. Because of that, I've waited until a while to touch on these subjects.

Here we go on the Aggies' offensive tackles.

Veteran Trey Zuhn did not play in the spring game, and I think it's safe to say that A&M missed him badly in the game because they couldn't really evaluate the rest of the lineup due to some of the breakdowns in the offensive line as a whole. Zuhn is a competent pass and zone run blocker who has a nice kick step and good lateral movement. However, he still struggles from a leverage standpoint when people can pop him early and get their hands into his chest.

Veteran Dametrious Crownover had a club on one hand and that is always a problem from a balance standpoint as a player. He is much better as a run blocker because he can use his size to come off of the ball and move them, especially when he has good angles as a down blocker. His length enables him to get As a pass blocker, he can be very good when he is focused on keeping his feet under him as he moves to anchor, getting his hands up early, using them to punch people when he is balanced, and if nothing else mirroring them/riding them behind the quarterback. When he doesn't do these things or is late doing them, people can work past him with surprising ease and it makes him play catch up for the rest of the rep which leads to waist bending, lunging at targets, or just being late to the rusher's path.

Veteran Reuben Fatheree was a freshman All American in 2021, suffered a knee injury in spring ball before the 2023 season, and hasn't been the same from a usage standpoint. He still has quality reps both as a run and pass blocker, but they've been fewer and fewer as time goes on. Fatheree doesn't seem to come off of the ball with the same pop or strength that he did before as a run blocker, and he has some of the same issues Crownover does as a pass protector. In fact, he's seemingly gotten less efficient as a run blocker since he was a freshman and added mass should make him more effective, not less effective.

Robert Bourdon started at left tackle, played some on the right side, and there are things to like about him. I always had him pegged as a right tackle because he is a physical player who really works a rep, staying in contact with the defender and using his length/mass to eventually win it. He can be technically proficient with his hands, getting them up and working them inside as both a run and pass blocker. He keeps his feet moving either laterally or north/south to stay in front of people. His biggest issue is that he does not bend well at his knees or hips which leads to him playing out over his toes and lunging or getting off balance. He didn't get any matchups on Saturday that might have been more problematic for him.

Finally, freshman Lamont Rogers played on both the left and right sides on Saturday. He is used to winning with size because once he gets his hands and body on you, he will just push you around. In addition, he will give ground as a pass protector, but he is going to be difficult to leverage. He was better earlier in the spring game in terms of his stamina since moved his feet and hands better. However, he is a work in progress from a technical standpoint which is to be expected of an early enrollee even if he is rated as a five star. Like Bourdon (who is also a tall player) he can be beaten with speed, quickness, and bend because people will get a hand on him, leverage him some, and then keep going around or under him. Nonetheless, he does not give up on reps even when beaten and makes people work for a living even though he can be overmatched at times due to his youth.

And here's CTJ's response to Tarp's post, lol.

The post-spring OT evaluation is grim enough for further concern with Tarp. This guy is one "Reuben Owens almost got a pass block" kind of missive away from driving over to the Texags office adjacent to the AD building, getting out of his I-Roc while it is still running, sitting down cross-legged in front of the building, dousing himself in gasoline and striking a match.

It is almost impossible to spin how shitty their OT situation looks after the spring game.

1) Zuhn is hurt and didn't play. He was easily their best-performing OT in the stadium on Saturday.

2) Fatheree is far shittier now than when he showed up on campus. Tarp appears to take some sort of shot at this guy for becoming a rotund glutton.

3) Crownover is productive when the opposing defense has their 4th team in during garbage time.

4) There's some French guy on their roster who is too tall to be effective but makes the best beouf bourguignon in the greater Bryan College Station area.

5) Lamont Rogers was seen crying on the sidelines after getting buttfucked by a walk-on in plain sight to the 200 fans in attendance.

This may make me a bad person but I love aggy tears after we beat them! If you go over to texaggy, they're eating their own over there. Believe it or not, there are a couple of logical aggy (oxymoron, I know!) telling it like it is.

Some of those logical aggy are not actually aggy, but instead are Horns working undercover. They infiltrate the group think and influence their beliefs, causing a more severe grade of agony.
It's a beautiful thing.

That one's out there. Logical aggy?

I know there are Horns pretending to be aggy but those are pretty easy to spot. I'm talking about the ones with agtags that while not stating "we suck again" can admit things other aggy can't like Texas is the better sports program and they're not an elite sports program nor have they ever been. They're rare but once in a while you spot one, kind of like a Bigfoot sighting.
