Baseball America
1.fake ut, 2. LSU, 3. arkie, 6. Florida, 9. Georgia, 10. blow U, 11. aggie, 12. Texas, 17. vandy, 19. ole miss, 20. bama, 22. miss. state, 23, ketucky

D1 Baseball
1. LSU, 2.fake ut, 3. arkie, 5. Georgia, 7. Florida, 12. Texas, 13. blow U, 14. aggie, 17. ole miss, 22. auburn, 23. bama

They are usually the main ones to go by. This is just the SEC teams listed in the top 25, and others are just outside the top 25.

Just of note, lsu, florida, georgia, aggie, and I believe aurburn are all visiting us for conference play.

It's been a long Mardi Gras day here in New Orleans so I won't be staying up to see the end of the TAMU-CC game but a few trends seem to be developing regarding this team:

Offense - Take away the nasty weather of the Dartmouth series and this team has shown capable to score lots of runs and will do it in chunks and via the long ball High level starters can slow them down but they feast on average to below par pitching. After tonight, will be averaging over 8 runs a game. Take away Dartmouth, over 10 a game.

Starting Pitching - Spencer and Harrison seem to be settling in as two high end starters. ERAs of 1.13 and 1.23 over 3 games started. 3rd starter and mid-week starter still up in the air, Kade Bing hasn't seemed to be that guy so far. Jason Flores has been good in his 2 starts but hasn't thrown many innings.

Relief Pitching - A handful of arms that have been consistent with a lack of depth behind them. Coaching staff seems to be testing out a variety of arms in low leverage situations and we haven't seen a lot of success. Arms that have been consistent - Max Grubbs (0.00 ERA, 11 inn), Dylan Volantis (ERA 1.86, 9.2 inn), Ruger Riojas (5.63 ERA, 8 inn), Dre Duplantier (0.00 ERA, 6 inn).

Defense - too many errors so far. 1.4 per game over the first 10. Another against TAMU-CC that led to 5 unearned runs. Rank around 180th in fielding percentage.

A few notes from this past weekend series:

No errors in any of the games for Texas.

Belyeu hit streak ended Friday night, but he still has reached base safely in all games so far this season.

Mendoza and Flores stayed hot at the plate.

Volantis showed that he can be a starter going 5.1 innings with 3 strikeouts, only 1 run with 4 hits and 1 walk while throwing only 66 pitches. He also got 2 double play balls to hold Santa Clara to 1 over the minimum batters he faced.

Grubbs and Riojas both got extended work out of the bullpen.

This was the 1st series against Santa Clara for Texas. The only other meeting was in 1962 at the CWS (per Texassports.com preview)

Seems like an opportunity to win an away series in the SEC, hopefully the team is up for the that. While ranked in the top 25, Miss St isn't in the top 10 in the SEC.
