2025 Baseball thread

I don't understand why everyone has aggy #1. They lost their Hall of Fame coach.
They had a lot of success in keeping their current roster together. There was a lot of thought that players would transfer to Texas - and that did not occur. Likely because they hired back one of Schloss asssitants.

They also had several draft eligible prospects return including the top college prospect Jace Laviolette and a top tier pitcher in Ryan Prager.

I do see Texas rising over the next few years and A&M regressing. Once they lose these top MLB prospects backfilling will be a challenge. They did lose many recruits to Texas when Schloss was hired. The head coach hire at A&M seemed short sighted, keeping a current assistant who does not have the history of success or experience coaching at this level.

As many of y'all may know, I wasn't the biggest Pierce fan, he just seemed nervous and disorganized. I believe Schlossnagle will turn things around, yet I know it may take some time. 🤘

What I think I know after this weekend:
We have two solid starters in Jared Spencer and Luke Harrison.

Our offense has some dudes that can mash and we will score plenty of runs most nights

Questions to be answered:
Who is the 3rd starter, and Tuesday starter?
Who are the reliable bull pen arms?

I think Grubbs will work his way back to one of the other 2 starters. I think they’ll work him back slow and build him up. I think Bing was a little nervous, wouldn’t shock me to see him pitch tomorrow against Houston.

As for the Bullpen, I’ll give Mercer a pass. It was his first appearance since his injury last year. The UTSA kid looked good his first 2 innings and then ran into some trouble. Yesterday was a weird day and Okie st can swing it.

Agree overall. Still way too early to make many conclusions, especially with the pitchers who are only 1 appearance into the season.

I was talking to an aggy buddy of mine and lets just say the hate for Jim Schlossnagle is strong with them. However he brought up some things, which I believe I countered correctly except one which I hadn't heard before.

He claimed that Jim S left his wife due to being a swinger and questioned why Texas would hire someone like that. I told him if I remembered correctly, Jim's divorce happened before aggy hired him and as far as being a swinger, was there proof of that or just made-up stuff because he left aggy? He then proceeded to mention that CDC and Jim met in a graveyard in Snook to talk about the Texas coaching job. I basically told him that was news to me, but I doubt that happened.

I told him that CDC and Jim S had a good relationship when they worked together at TCU however his relationship with the aggy AD wasn't as strong. My belief is that when the aggy AD fired one of Jim's assistants without his knowledge, that was final straw and Jim decided to come to Texas.

Has anybody else heard this before? Sounds like petty aggy sh*t to me.

It's funny how hard they work to twist things around.

It reminds me of Jeff banks, who they say is a sleaze for leaving his wife and kids for a stripper, and Texas was sleazy for hiring him, with that history. The problem with that narrative is that it happened in College Station, and he was in good standing at aggy, until he took a job at bama.

The whole swinger thing is classic fan base lore and even if true, you'd have to ask him why they loved him so much even if that was true.

CDC posted a photo outside of the cemetery in Snook. Apparently he was laying low there before meeting Schloss at his house to discuss the hire. CDC knew he couldn't be seen in town.

So, the game against Houston was cancelled due to weather. We are playing Dartmouth this weekend, and it's only 1 of 2 weekend series against non conference opponents that we have at home before conference play starts. Between them we are playing in Las Vegas against Washington, tech, and Illinois.

Thanks for the clarification and I agree it sounded aggyish to me about the swinging stuff. I admit it's a little strange that CDC would post a picture at a Snook cemetery, even if he was waiting for the coast to be clear. Wonder why he posted it? I'm just glad Jim S is our coach and hopefully he'll lead us to great things! 🤘

So checking at Texassports.com, the games against Dartmouth are scheduled for Friday 1PM, Saturday & Sunday at noon. The same guys that started last weekend will also start against Dartmouth. At is at least what they currently have listed.

The games are on SEC+, stream the radio thru Texassports.com, and if possible for Joey to do it via X.

The next 5 games are at home starting Tuesday with A & M -- Corpus Christi; weekend -- Santa Clara; then UTA the following Tuesday. If we keep playing like we are, then we could be heading to Miss. St. At 14-1.

I believe Tuesday is when the updated top 25 comes out, it should be interesting to see how many SEC teams are in the top 25.

Williams, is getting closer to being able to practice, which only helps with depth.

Haven’t seen much pitching from Tumis or the South Carolina transfer McCreery. Mercer hasn’t pitched much since the opening weekend. Wonder if they will try and work them in during the midweek games or weekends if Texas gets up big.

Not to mention aggy should be out of the top 25. From 1 to not ranked 🤣
