It is more than that....word on the street is that Owens is not progressing...either from lack of effort or talent, but the staff needs an experienced backup just in case....

I read it in Surly....I do not remember who said it, but they said the QB room was not as solid as we had been told, and that for whatever reason Owens was about to be passed on the depth chart by the freshman QB. They said the hope was that Owens would rededicate himself, but the staff thought if that did not happen, they better have an experienced QB as backup

Surly has some excellent sources.....as well as some knuckleheads, but because no other possible explanation exists, I suspect it is fairly accurate.
