Baseball thread for 2026 and going forward

Not certain who Nash is, but not very accurate.

Per Schloss' press conference last Thursday.

Starter at 1st is Borba. Starter at 3rd is Livingston.

A Rod had off season hand/wrist surgery. He should be cleared for live at bats starting this week.

J. Williams started hopefully getting some live at bats and understanding of the signs and getting some fielding last week, but the weather probably slowed that down some.

Helpfully, over the next 8/9 days they can get some of that done.

Outside of Harrison being a weekend starter; nothing has been decided on starters and/or roles.

I'm just passing along what I read.
Key word in the post you might have missed is "could".

Then what do you think the depth chart would be as of today? He took a guess, I'm curious to see your guess!

Alright, I'll go by if all are ready to go 1st per Schloss:

LF: Pack Jr., Larson, Pendergrass, Peterson

CF: Williams, Robbins, Pack Jr., Pendergrass

RF: Robbins, Pack Jr., Pendergrass, Peterson

1st base: Borba, Livingston, C. Early

2nd base: Mendoza, C. Early, J. Duplantier

SS: A Rod, Becerra, J. Duplantier

3rd: Livingston, Becerra, Borba

C: Tinney, Ermis, Courville

Now, if Williams isn't ready or A Rod isn't ready

Outfield looks like Larson (LF), Robbins (CF), Pack Jr (RF)

SS: Temo Becerra as starter

Hopefully A Rod could be the DH, if not Ermis is most likely the DH

Of the freshmen Pack Jr, is the highest rated player on campus is a decade. He isn't sitting.
Courville might be the next best freshmen hitter thus he could be used as a DH. Monsour and
Will Hill, both (OFs) need to redshirt if possible. Monsour is called Max Belyeu 2.0 if he keeps developing. BTW, Max Belyeu didn't play his freshmen yr. Neither, keep that in mind.

As for pitching starters for the weekend:
Harrison is either Saturday or Sunday
Leffew: either Friday or Saturday
Volantis: Friday or closer, or whatever the staff ask him to do.
Jason Flores: Sunday or mid week starter

Midweek starter:
Jason Flores
Cade Bing
Crossland
Cozart

All other pitchers will work into or out of roles for mid week and weekend roles.

The pre-season coaches' voting for the regular season championship for baseball came out on Thursday.

LSU was no. 1, we are no. 2

We have 5 players that were on the pre-season all SEC team:
Mendoza, Volantis, Grubbs, Burns, Tinney

I do agree that LSU should be voted no. 1.

D1 baseball and perfect game for a preseason poll both have us at 8, but they put Miss. St. Ahead of us and Bama ahead of us. Disagree on both. The favor of a new coach and new players from UVA to MSU is why. But a UVA that barely made 2 yrs ago and don't remember them in the final 16 ( 2 yrs ago) could be wrong. But they didn't even make the round 64 last yr. and now in the toughest baseball league they are going to be awesome? Maybe against okay teams, but not the arkie, LSU, us, fake ut teams.

For those that miss Greg and Keith. They have the zeke and zonk podcast out. It's on spotify, Instagram, and possibly YouTube (haven't verify yet). There is possobly 2-3 podcast already out. They cover their stories of their career, college baseball, and other various baseball stuff. With the season a week away, expect more college baseball insight and possibly insight for Texas baseball.

1. UCLA 7-2
2. LSU 9-1
3. Texas 9-0
4. Miss St 10-0
5, Georgia Tech 9-1
6. Arkansas 7-3
7. Auburn 7-2
8. UNC 9-1-1
9. Coastal Carolina 6-3
10. Florida 10-1

Looks like the top ten will change a bit Monday.

"I'm going to give them (Texas) a heck of a compliment, because I've been watching Texas baseball for 30 years. I think that's the best Texas pitching staff I've ever seen. Now, were we great tonight? Not even close. And we could be better, and we're going to work at being better. But those guys don't give you much room to breathe."

– Mitch Thompson, Baylor baseball coach

This weekend schedule with USC Upstate (South Carolina) may change due to the weather coming in over the next 5/6 days.
So, don't go by what is currently listed. Wait until Friday for the schedule and it might still change as it goes.

During the post game press conference coach Schloss said that J. Williams reinjured his shoulder injury from HS during the game Friday night.

Not certain how severe the reinjured shoulder is or how long he will be out

Now, spring practice is coming up for football, but due to NCAA rules for practice time. It's doubtful he is an active player for football during the spring. He can attend just not do many if any reps.

A few notes before conference play this weekend:

We are #1 in conference and #2 overall prior to the Tuesday game in team ERA

We are #2 in conference and top 5/10 overall in fielding.

We are top #4/5 in conference and top #15/20 overall in hitting/offensive numbers.

We really haven't used that many pitchers. The back up fielders have been used barely.

Only SoCal and us are the unbeaten teams in the nation as of this past weekend. Haven't looked to see if they won or lost on Tuesday night. Only they had a better team ERA than us prior to Tuesday games.

I like that the team is more about pitching and defense instead of offense. Offense is there, but championships are built on pitching and defense with solid offense.

I think that the final 4 teams as of the right now would be UCLA, Texas, Miss St, and LSU. Even with LSU not playing with desire at now, they will. Plus they will be a hard out in June.

BTW, if you watched and listened on YouTube Tuesday night, don't answer right away. But here is a question to everyone:

What university is the only university with more baseball wins than Texas and what is the difference in wins?

I didn't watch.... and I have no idea. I'll take a stab in the dark and say Stanford? And I bet it's close.... 20 wins separate the two. My second guess is Mississippi St.

If asked what college has the most baseball wins, my guess would have been Texas.

I hear that USC team that's undefeated has a pretty good pitching coach and good pitcher originally from Lampasas. ;)

I don't know the answer at all but I'm going to guess Stanford.

I googled it and it ain't Stanford. Nobody's gonna guess this one.
