GAME WEEK – Mississippi State

I have checked the betting lines. Texas is a 6.5 - 7 point favorite. The bookies either know something that I don't or didn't see the game that I saw. Perhaps they are more analytical and not as emotional. That is why I don't bet. I will stick with iron condor (options).
Yes and Texas was a 13.5 favorite last week. That tells me Texas or Sark wasn't mentally or physically there. They were still digesting their rat poison from the ousux game. I wish that they were never ranked at #1. Apparently it went to their heads.

I actually have a David McWilliams autographed football. Same for Royal as well.
David WcWilliams was amongst the best defensive coordinators I've ever seen. 1983 (the year you graduated??) he coordinated, arguably, the best defense in Texas history.

I don't bet against Texas.... so I'm sitting this one out.

The way CDC operates, by his own admission, is - he gives coaches one "reset." In other words, an opportunity / support to redo the coaching staff when things are headed in the wrong direction. If the reset doesn't work the next step is getting canned. If Sark turns down the "reset opportunity," the results will be the same if the next season doesn't turn around.

I'm not saying this happens at the end of this season.... but it isn't too far away if things conclude this year how I think they might.

I don't know. To say that Sark doesn't know what's wrong with this team is a little over kill. A blind man can see the O-Line is a major problem. Without an O-Line, what can you do that the D isn't ready for? run? pass?

Sure Arch doesn't look that good, but what first year starter would when he's running for his life.

I'm not saying the coaches are blameless, but at this point, what can you do with what you have. It's not going to be pretty, but a win is a win. I'll take all that we get.

The Briles name has certainly taken a hit. But I'll say this... I'd take a Briles student as an OC any day. Lebby runs a form of the Briles offense. Remember Sterlin Gilbert (OC under Chuck Strong), he is from the Briles tree. It is like the run and shoot spread offense, with a power running element thrown in. Right now I'd walk to wherever Sterlin Gilbert is to bring him back to Austin.
He’s been fired or let go at 3-4 places since Texas due to sucking.

The run and shoot isn’t a complex offense…. I’d avoid it

Gilbert? Has he been fired as a head coach or an OC?

I loved his offense at Texas. He had a running back rush for over 2,000 yards and we averaged 32 points per game. The Briles offense originated (and dominated) in high schools.... not too complex for high school kids. It isn't the old run and shoot. In short, I disagree.

I'll take the win, too.

On ESPN Sirrius today, they hosted Reese Davis. Davis repeated what you just said. A win is a win.

We played an SEC team on the road at night. And Kentucky is a team that is/was desperate for a win. I think we knew this would be a tough game going in. I just didn't expect the shit show we saw. I was thinking we'd see the team that beat OU.

I think what you're suggesting in your post is that Sark understands how bad this has been. I think he has restrained his criticism of the OL and also of Arch. But that sure has left me and others wondering if he does realize how bad this is right now.

Should have picked up some OL in the portal last year.

If a bunch of country boys from class AAA Mt Vernon can run it, anybody can.

I think I heard this on Orangbloods.... The Texas GM (don't know his name) pushed hard for portal additions at OL and WR. The position coaches said it wasn't necessary. There was NOT agreement in the room. Furthermore, the NIL providers were willing to spend. Ultimately, Sark sided with the coordinators.

I'm sure Sark knows what is wrong... if he doesn't we're in deeper trouble than any of us can imagine. If what I said above is true, then what's really wrong is a horrible evaluation blunder in the offseason. I'm not sure what they're doing in practice to evaluate where they are talent-wise... but this was a swing and miss of colossal proportions.

How much of this is on Arch? What do your ex-QB spidey-senses tell you? He does hang onto the ball too long from time to time.

Things that I see are wrong:

1. Sark is calling plays, such as last Saturday, that just take too long to develop. Remember the quick hitting passes we did so well on against OU. None of that happened against Kentucky. Why the hell not? It worked. He went back to what was killing us. When your OL is this bad, do not call plays that take so long to develop.

2. Arch's passing has been abnormally bad. I don't know what his issue is, maybe overthinking things or pressing. Arch's passes last year weren't like this at all. So what changed?

What I hope does not happen is Arch developing (even subliminally) an expectation of failure. I hope for his sake that doesn't happen.

3. WR – we have some nice WRs, but not like we've had the previous two years. We had home run threats (Worthy, etc) that we don't have now. Wingo seems to underachieve, based on his talent. But Wingo was getting extra attention from opposing secondaries until Moore showed back up. None of the freshmen have wowed me in the least. This offense needs a stud or two out wide.

4. I agree with a post here that said Sark/Flood passing on portal OL was a very big mistake. This was a huge misjudgement on their part. Where is all the talent they thought we had? They lauded Cruz, but won't play him. Nate Kibble is someone they brag about, but he never plays. I see no answer for any of it.

Per OTF, Michael Taaffe will miss the Mississippi State game, the Vanderbilt game, then we have a bye. They expect him back after that bye week which is when we'll play Georgia.

WTH I thought he finished Saturday's game. Did anybody hear anything about an injury before OTF mentioned it this afternoon?

He broke the finger during the 4th quarter of Saturday's game.

His finger was already messed up, so they decided to correct everything since they're going in to fix the break from Saturday.
