They've lost 26 early to the portal or draft.

There are others that people are counting as staying, like Russell or A Smith, simply because they haven't declared anything. They're unlikely to declare anything, unless they declare they're coming back. They've aged out of the program and folks are crossing their fingers about them claiming a corona year. With an org like that imploding, and the known discord with WR and LB rooms, the notion that graduating seniors are suddenly coming back is silly. There's like 8 of those guys. That gets you to 34 without effort.

Then you have guys that haven't entered the portal that are going to enter the portal. That's Lucas at a minimum. Who here thinks there won't be 5-10 more guys between now and the end of the 2nd portal period in the spring heading into the portal? 

Then you have simple roster attrition. Medicals and quitters. Who here expects Bryce Foster back? 

If these idiots wind up with 15 recruits, while losing 45+ guys all in, they'll need to land 30-35 players in the portal. Now we know where all of the G5 jaggers are going to land, at least.

I've enjoyed watching their fans go through the process of convincing themselves that this is happening to every team in the new era and it is just the way things go. Ritz Bitz is tearing this program down to the studs in real time. "

Not certain who CJT is, but the hope is that the 5*QB doesn't go MLB, but could. If that happens expect ES to leave, but to where is a major question as every big time school will offer him.

Not certain who CJT is, but the hope is that the 5*QB doesn't go MLB, but could. If that happens expect ES to leave, but to where is a major question as every big time school will offer him.

If I understand MLB draft rules correctly the QB would have to withdraw from school by the middle of March to be eligible. 
I can’t imagine that scenario is realistic but IF it happened they would be the new 87 SMU program. Only Jimbob applied the death penalty not the NCAA.

I would guess that the staff want to get through early high school recruit signing day before focusing more on the portal. Elite portal takes could potentially scare off high school recruits. Hopefully the staff also has some information about guys who might portal after the end of the semester and bowl season or even after spring.

Mike Roach mentioned on the Longhorn Republic podcast that came out yesterday that the staff had some OL lined up in the portal last year before they had positive momentum with the late OL additions from HS. They opted to take the HS players over the transfer portal guys. 

He applied that to this years LB situation. They may prefer to bring in all their HS recruits, especially if that includes Anthony Hill, in lieu of taking a guy from the portal that may push one or more of the HS recruits elsewhere. 

I think this will be a balancing act each year and at each position based on need. It does seem that the staff has a preference for HS guys which I do think will pay off in the long run.

Amen - I agree prioritizing and choosing Texas HS FB recruits, and developing them in your program over the years, is a much more sustainable and successful long term solution (as opposed to fickle short term transfer portal mercenaries forced to learn your whole system in one year)
