*****Game Thread: Baylor Bears @ Texas Longhorns*****

So you are saying we should lower our standards to accept passing completion percentages of below 50%?

and yes those Florida QBs are not good passing QBs, although they are very fast
Not at all, reread my post

Well he is what he is and all the coulda, woulda can not change that.

For the life of me can not see how a simple statement on status of a QB needs so much defending.
You might be overreacting just a tad here.

Nothing I said in my post was incorrect. Nor did I say you said anything that was incorrect.

Read thru any game thread, this isn’t about one poster. There are fans that go way negative immediately. Down 9~0 early in first quarter. Well we bash everything from QB and our coach. I am trying to be the other side of the equation. Did Ewers make good decisions? Well not always, however he is basically a freshman who didn’t play any meaningful football in 2 years. Game is faster, and he is learning on the fly.
Even though I quoted you my post was in reaction to numerous people.  Like the comments "all knowings" or "people narrative" etc.  Seems petty and ridiculous.  The bottom line is Ewers is young and inexperienced but he seems to be a very slow learner.  I remember Sam taking a sack for a huge loss when he had time to throw it away.  I cant remember the game but the very next game he was put in the same situation and throw it away.  I have not seen that from Ewers.  He repeatedly makes the same mistakes and new ones.  Anyone here who says otherwise is part the Sunshine club and simply sticks their head in the sand.

I have been a member of both the sunshine and pessimistic club.  I guess it depends on what I see in the game.  I do not sugar coat it nor am I rooting for failure.  Even Sark jumped Ewers after the Safety.  I know my first though was thank god for the Rojo and Bijan because if we had to rely on Ewers I would have been very nervous.

This isnt really a winnable argument because the sunshine crew will point to 2 years from now.  Its difficult to know whether Ewers goes the way of VY or Colt or the other direction of Gilbert.   He could go on to be great but I dont know and neither does the Sunshine crew so save the petty comments.  I do know going into the Kansas game Ewers was 4-3 as a starter completing 55.2% for 1507 yards with 13 TDs and 6 picks.  Not counting his fumbles which I do not know.

As I said its not all on him:  young OL, questionable play calls, dropped passes etc.  Regardless I am rooting for the kid but my allegiance is to the school not any one player or coach.

In short we are all rooting for the boys but im tired of the flames just because someone points out the mistakes.

Yes we both might have over reacted. Not a reflection on you but a lot of normaly sensive posters lose it at mention of Ewers or JD.

How many explosive plays did the QBS have?

Never said they were good passers saidthey were goog QBS

Belive Texas has hab some good QBS that werenot so good at passing. Then football is different today.

God forbid anyone has a negative opinion. I aint JD for crying out loud.
The first half was terrible.  We were fortunate to only be down by 2 points considering the number of plays ran and time possession advantage Baylor had.

Part of that is we scored quickly but I was worried the defense was going to get gassed

Big win yesterday that the team and fanbase needed. I was stressed out yesterday watching and found myself caring more than recently. Why? Because we were playing for something. After a 5-7 season last year, we’ve improved to 8-4 (where a lot of us thought we’d be) and having a chance to go to Arlington. Do we need help tonight? Sure. Did we lose control over going to Arlington because of shooting ourself in the foot earlier in the season? Absolutely. Was I frustrated throughout the season? Of course I was. I want to effing win. But did I see some progress this season? Hell yes, I did.

It was a young team, especially on offense and not just at QB. You get inconsistency when you rely on young players, and hell yes that inconsistency frustrates us. But that doesn’t mean burn everything down to the ground, fire a coach, and start all over again.

Sark had his fair share of issues this season, but he’s also shown some growth as a coach and play caller. He’s learning from his mistakes earlier in the season. In that Baylor game, what did he do? They were plugging up the middle, so he started calling plays to get his runners on the outside. He called a delayed run for QE3 at the goal line because the defense wasn’t expecting it. He tried to get the passing game going later in the game, but the O-line was getting destroyed and QE3 wasn’t handling the rush well, so he put the ball back in the hands of his RBs and made it simple for his struggling O-line: just run block.

I’d love another shot at TCU because I know we can give them a game if given the chance. If we don’t get that chance though, we have a chance at 9 wins in a bowl game. That’s progress and I’ll take it, but to be clear, I’m expecting more next season. More from QE3. More from Sark.

who is #92? he got beat silly on the right side and his guy got to Ewers first.  #92 is not on the team online roster and I dont have him on my spreadsheet. odd to have a newbie in at that point in the game.

I think that's Karic. This was the shit show yesterday. OL had a bad day.

I have to admit I thought it was #52 but it looks more like #92.

In his presser, Sark did state the OL has to do better at protecting the QB. Several of those sacks were on them but I agree, Ewers needed to throw that away quicker.

now that alone is interesting. Karic was 69 (and still is on the online roster). #92 is generally a defensive #. If Karic is #92, then I'm wondering if they are likely to move him to defense
