Kevin Sumlin Fired At A&M

I actually would much rather have them hire Jimbo Fisher who to me is on a downward trend than the Ags go and get Chad Morris who I do think is a a very good Coach with deep ties to Texas High School Coaches .  SMU still has many academic requirements that put an extra burden on his recruiting but I think he has SMU going in a good direction.

Who remembers who the first school to ever pay a college football coach a million dollars a year -- and who was that coach ? Hint former owner of Cowboys gave this coach a blank check and said Win at any cost-- the coach followed those instructions and broke every NCAA law in the books---?? It wasn't Texas

It was $2 million a year which everyone could not believe you would pay that much .  He made more than the Head Coach of the Cowboys at that time which the newspapers had fun with.

Was it Clint Murchison that paid it?

Trying to remember coach. I was living out of state.

With his divorce, if his son doesn’t want him to leave, he would be making a big mistake.

It was Jackie Sherrell  (hope I spelled that right).  He had just come off of a National Championship at Pitt and had that program winning when the Aggie Alumni came calling with an open check book.

So how much could this actually cost the Aggie's ,  They still have to pay Sumlin a pretty large amount,  plus I am sure Fisher has a pretty steep buyout they would need to pay Florida State plus pay him whatever contract they offer.  Then what do they owe the Defensive Coordinator they got from LSU....

You are correct --Jackie @ 1 million The guy that gave Jackie a blank check  for illegal recruiting was Bum Bright Their are a lot of recruiting stories one could tell during that time period -- my favor is Harvey Williams of course the Sealy HS product  Eric D is pretty good too.

10.4 mil due to Sumlin in 60 days

7.5 mil annually for 5 yrs for Fisher

7 mil is Fisher’s FSU buyout at FSU

Quick math says that the ags need to come up with 17.4 mil quickly, and then another 37.5 mil for Fisher’s purported salary offer.  This doesn’t include the salaries for his assistant coaches and staff.

So where do the farmers find that kind of cash that quickly?

what makes Fisher such a super prize? What happened this year at FSU that would make him leave? 5-6?
You’d have to imagine this year though was an anomaly considering the amount of success he has had at FSU. Hiring him would be a big pickup for A&M things considered.
