It looks like we have our starting QB for the Notre Dame game

I said this in a different thread but if Swoopes is our starter, it may well be Strong's last year.

Per Chip about today's scrimmage

" Kai Locksley got a look returning punts, too."l
Hopefully, this is the first move to WR. We could have four QBs making a contribution against ND. Buechele and Swoopes at QB, Heard at WR, and Locksley returning punts.

Okay, I may be nitpicking here but am I just missing the statement in the article where The Brainiacs definitively said that Swoopes won the job? They for sure imply it but they never really come right out and say it.
The part about Anwar who broke the story that Swoopes may win the job.

I don't mind Swoopes starting since college football allows substitutions at QB at anytime in the game. This can only help a true freshman if comes in the game instead of starting and not having to deal with all the pressure that goes along with it. The coaches may want to limit the number of hits Buechele takes at the beginning of the season. I read that Heard may have a package of plays along with Swoppes' 18 wheeler.

I've read that this offense is more instinctive and that's only going to help Swoopes and he's proven to be a high character guy, so if he loses his job he can be counted on to give his best if needed.

WOW. Ok. Another 5 or 6 win season. And Herman will be our Coach next year --- I really wanted Charlie to success------I HOPe THIS IFORMATION is incorrect . What else does Swoopes have to do to prove he CAN NOT take us to the promise land !!!!!! CS I am sooooo disappointed

It's the right decision, in my opinion.

Let your freshman gunslinger take in the first few series on the sidelines, in real time.  This will not be anything like practice.

If he's the real deal, and many say that he is, then being beside the QB coach while ND shows their D scheme is the smart thing to do.

I called this 6 months ago.

I still want ND to dominate, but this move shows that Strong is not a greenhorn.

If Swoopes starts, it doesn't mean he will necessarily finish as the starter.

I get folks are down on Ty and it's reasonable to have that opinion, but lets see how the game unfolds before we have a total meltdown. Like I said on Twitter, I would bet the house that both players play against ND, so it probably won't matter who trots out for the first series.

I just made a couple of phone calls. --- I am being told that decision IS NOT made. Gosh I hope that is correct !!!!

Starting your true freshman in a game of this magnitude would be a fireable offense.

This is a non-story, and the right decision.

You don't make that decision on their age but on their ability and the chemistry they bring to the team and the results of Aug practice and your guy feel !!

If Gilbert is willing to lay his coaching career at THE University of Texas on the line by starting Swoopes, then he obviously believes Swoopes can get the job done. Maybe this scheme is gonna suit him better. I'm just an armchair QB, who has never coached football a day in my life, I'll trust the new OC knows more than any of us on this board think we do! Hook 'em & beat the hell outta ND!

I totally agree. People are getting way too bent out of shape. Let it play out. I expect both will play and whichever QB moves the team will get more snaps. I appreciate your posts Daniel. As a former coach, I like your insight as you have been there too. I'm curious how the situation works itself out. Also want to see how the young D line plays, if the defense has improved, how the O line and receivers look, etc.

This is still a program very much in transition. I was very dissappointed last year but I have a feeling the Horns will make a big step forward this year.

Time will tell.

A lot of moving parts and interesting storylines for sure. There is no doubt that the roster has talent, but majority of it is underclassmen. Young pups are going to have to grow up quick.

LMAO. Swoopes is going to leave Texas as the greatest practice player in the history of the program. He also will leave knowing he got two coaches fired. He is terrible on gamedays.
I guess it's also Swoope's fault that he is now playing under his 4th Offensive Coordinator.

Look, I like Swoopes, I think he is a good young man however he does not have a stellar track record on the field. I'm not bent out of shape because Texas winning or losing has nothing to do with me keeping or losing my job.

Let's say you start Swoopes and he has the start he did last year vs ND. Texas could be down 2 or 3 scores and have issues coming back. Even if they did make a comeback but fell short, everyone would be blaming Strong for starting him.

You start Buechele and lose everyone knows you're giving it your best shot with your best QB who just happens to be a true freshman.

I think people could live with and forgive the latter scenario, I'm not so sure they could live with the first one since they've seen it before. But like I've said before, what do I know? I thought Heard would be the starting QB.
