I can confirm that Sonny Cumbie was at Cedar Hill today recruiting players.

When I asked point blank if what Sonny said about his situation between TCU and Texas... silence.

So go ahead and freak out and project what that means.

To me this is a non-story

FYI Jeremy Clark of 247 said Cumbie was out recruiting for TCU so we dug in with our contacts there.

Just posted on 247 per a poster

Just heard from a friend of one of the coaches on the TCU staff that cumbie is staying at tcu... It ain't about the money for cumbie and at the end of the day he's happy where he's at!! And yes this is really hard for me to believe !

So should we read into this or is this probably him doing he job while at tcu?
Just doing his job.

I mean, what happening right now is he's still employed. You don't skip planned meetings at one job because you're thinking about taking another. That's a great way to end up with neither.

All of this doesn't bode well for him coming to UT. Better be getting someone else on the phone (like Gilbert). There are other good fish in the sea. Looks kinda like Cumbie is playing the "recruit cap game" here.

Source tells us Gary Patterson said Cumbie is "torn."  This was followed up with "He's [Patterson] certainly given Cumbie his blessing to leave if he thinks it's right for him."

Same source also clarified the "head coach in waiting" rumor as "absolutely false - "Patterson has at least a decade left most likely."

We were told it ultimately comes down to whether or not Cumbie thinks Strong is going to be around for a while & does Texas have the players to run his system, or will it take 2 years to recruit them all?

I think the athletes are there for him to run his offense u have burt, newsome,a.foreman and lo joe on the outside and inside with collin johnson and hemphill and curtis coming this year running backs Johnson, foreman, and chris Warren o line be much better go get evans from the juco ranks we be good to go imho!

Strong might of kissed his chances of landing this guy before the season even started by sticking with Watson.

If he turns the Texas job down that probably means he doesn't think much of our QB's on our roster.
Hell other thank the longhorn emblem on the helmet, i dont think that much of our QB's on our roster at the moment. Hopefully the light turns on for one of them. I hate having this negative viewpoint but god this season was awful and i dont see much promise for next year under center.

The last Texas QB I felt confident about throwing a pass was Colt McCoy.
