2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Mack honestly should play under Sumlin. I have serious reservations how Mack will make the transition to college and how he will moderate his need for attention when it's not all about him. Sumlin is going to demand a lot less from his players and considering the cult worship of the ags, Mack will get far more attention on campus at aggy than he would at Texas. Then again, in my mind Sumlin's system was directly responsible for allowing Manziel to not be capable of handling the NFL, but that isn't Mack's concern entering his freshman season.

Soso is one who seems to be a loss. Lodge doesn't seem to be interested in Texas and I think Texas dodged a bullet letting aggy get Mack, just as with Golden and RSJ.
I have never understood why a black athlete would want to play football at A&M, especially if he had other options.

Maybe its just me but bending over with hands on the knees screaming "hump it" just never has appealed to me.

That is a cool thing.  Begs the question, why don't more Fort Worth players get recruited?  Is the FWISD low on students?
Good question.

I was born and grew up in FW so I have some general knowledge of HS football in the FWISD. I played football in Jr. High and was a starter at a 4A HS in the late 60's - early 70's.  I cannot tell you exactly why but even then I thought FW schools were at least 2 steps behind other DFW schools and surrounding towns competition wise.

The last and only state champion in football came from the FWISD was Arlington Heights I believe in the 40's.  Bill Allen coached teams at Pascal that had some good teams that went deep in the playoffs in the early 60s and since then I don't think a FWISD school has made it past a second round playoff game.  Public school enrollment is down from the peak probably sometime in the 70's & 80's.

IMO highly successful athletics in the FWISD - especially football in modern times, has not been a focus or emphasis all the way from the top to the individual high schools.  I don't want to make this a critical piece but there are many things lacking.

There is some talent in FWISD, but sadly there are not many kids recruited out of these schools by D-1 programs.

Just my .02.

I don't think Strong and Staff use the scouting service rankings.  Its fine to use them - but when you're talking about the 700th ranked versus the 1100th ranked - does it even matter?  How many people actually saw those kids play?  I sure as hell didn't.  You know who did though - Texas coaches.

Just like the NFL draft - when you start getting into the lower rounds you are looking for people who fit your system.  They might not be the highest rated - but they are kids who know how to play and fit into the scheme you run.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, or call you out, but i can't stand all the pissing and moaning because some kid is ranked the 1000th best prospect and 'Texas should get better than that'.  So what if the kid can actually play, do we ignore him because the scouting services weren't sold?  Its all a bunch of subjective nonsense - and any of us trying to do any real evaluation based on a 4 minute hudl highlight film is an absolute joke.

The 'Charlie Strong is falling int bad/Louisville habits' is an absolute joke.  This is a guy who recruited top flight talent at FLA (with Urban Meyers help of course) and turned around a cess-pool at Louisvile with solid recruiting that produced multiple first round picks despite never raising any higher than 29th in ranking with Strong as HC.  Strong recruits football players and hires coaches who can develop them.  Texas gives him an opportunity to recruit kids he could of only dreamed about at Louisville - but he's still looking for football players.  And sometimes football players aren't ranked in the top 200.
Thank you, Hipho.

Great response!

The rating services are fun, and that is the end of their usefulness. Any real coach that uses them to evaluate players is in the wrong line of work.

These kids that are stringing everyone along are in for a big shock on Feb 5th. All the attention will shift to the 2016 class and nobody will care what they are doing, just care about how they perform on the field. They will have to focus on class and off season, put in some real work. The only easy day was yesterday.

To me Mack is the gutshot.  That one hurts.  And will hurt in the future.  But, we still have Green Mile and hopefully a healthy Tank Jackson (+ Poona + Nelson + Lampkin) so the cupboard is not completely bare inside.  And the rest of the defense will have a ton more depth than we had in 2014.

To me, Soso was always more of a luxury than a necessity (assuming we hold Warren).  We still have Gray and The Daje.  Catalon made some noise in practice, everyone says.   Plus we are adding more depth.

I feel the same way about Lodge, given the WRs we have already grabbed.

Clearly, we need to draw in Kai Locksley, which sounds like we still are.  Without him, however, we will be skating on thin ice

All of that leaves the 800 lb gorilla we call the offensive line.  Everyone knows the story there.  The good news is that we R/S'd all of the 2014 OLs and have four new  2015 OL EEs.  And we have a great OL coach.  It has to be better, right?

I am reading all of this information on Texas recruits now now wavering.  My question is, what has changed from the "high" of their last OV visit?  I'm not buying all of this. For one, I dont see Strong being caught off guard.  I would like to think that he has told these guys that if they are going else where, then he needs to know.  I just don't think Strong wakes up on NSD wondering who is coming to Texas.

Secondly, these guys running these sites are business people.  They have bills to pay as well they have to provide for their family.  If there is not any drama, then there are less clicks and also less potential subscribers.

I want these guys here like everyone else but if they don't come, then at least we will have guys that want to be Longhorns.  Remember there are no guarantees and these recruits have yet to prove a thing on he field.
More people need to read the bolded middle paragraph above.
