Third-ranked Texas and No. 20 Texas A&M will face off for the first time in thirteen years this evening at Kyle Field in College Station. The winner of this contest, which includes ESPN’s College GameDay on-hand, earns a trip to the Southeastern Conference Championship game against the Georgia Bulldogs on December 7th in Atlanta.
The game needs no further explanation. It provides bragging rights to the winner for a year. It affects recruiting for some of the state’s best talent. It could propel the winner into playing for a national championship if all the chips fell the right way. To put it bluntly, this is a monumental game.
Texas holds the top spot in the SEC, with Texas A&M sitting in a tie for third place. The Aggies have lost just one game at home this season, to Notre Dame. Texas has fared well at Kyle Field as of late, winning five of the last six matchups there. The Longhorns also hold a ten game true road game winning streak.
The 119th rendition of the Lone Star Showdown gets underway at 6:30 PM with Texas claiming an all-time series record of 76-37-5 against the Aggies.
