With Garrett Gilbert’s mediocre play at the QB position last year expect the storyline from here to the season opener to be exciting… Maybe even racy…. No pun intended…. From the rumbings on the Forty Acres Chase McCoy, brother of former standout Longhorn QB Colt McCoy, has made spring ball interesting. McCoy connecting with Patrick McNamara on an 11 yard touchdown pass in the spring game (immediately after a Gilbert turnover) seemed to ignite a debate over who will fall under center in September. With all this being said, Gilbert is still the more experienced guy. Taking over for an injured Colt McCoy against Alabama in the 2009 National Championship game and then being the #1 guy last season, the job is more than likely still Garrett’s to lose.
No matter which player is named the starter, the offense should have a revamped look with Harsin and Applewhite as Co-Offensive Coordinators. Young guns they are, but they will definitely keep it real. With a name like McCoy the possibilities are certainly endless, but for now we can sit back and root for all of the guys wearing burnt orange to make us proud next season. Bring on the AIR ASSAULT!
