Last season, Charles Wright was able to lead the Austin High Maroons to a playoff appearance. However, the highlight of Wright’s year had to have been receiving an offer from the University of Texas. Wright was given the opportunity to fulfill his dreams after 2021 four-star quarterback Jalen Milroe decommitted from Texas in mid-August. Now enrolled at the Forty Acres, Wright will look to leave his mark on the Longhorns football program.
Wright, a three-star quarterback, was ranked as the 33rd highest-rated pro-style quarterback in the nation’s 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

- Offense: 2,759 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 442 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Strengths:
One thing that stands out about Wright is his accuracy on deep passes, even when facing heavy pressure. Furthermore, Wright does a good job of keeping his eyes downfield as a play develops, giving his wide receivers a chance to create separation and make plays.
Additionally, Wright has a quick release and enough arm strength to zip the football to his targets in the short passing game.
Needs Improvement:
Occasionally, Wright will try to force passes into tight windows and get picked off. However, Wright showed progress during his senior season as he committed fewer mental mistakes.
What I See:
While I believe that Wright is a talented quarterback, I also believe that it will take some time for him to develop. However, Wright was not recruited to play right away for the Longhorns anyways. As a result, Wright will have the time to get adjusted to the speed of the college game and learn from the other rostered quarterbacks. Ultimately, I think that Wright has the potential to develop into a Power Five caliber starting quarterback. Even so, I believe that Wright’s role as a Longhorn will be to develop into a solid second-string quarterback, something that has become increasingly important in today’s game.
